My name is not really important, but to remember what happened, is. It's strange. To be abused all one's life and to finally want to come to terms with what has happened. Did I finally grow up? Or did part of me die, and I don't care what repercussions I will get as the "whistle-blower"? This diary is about my military experiences from 1993 as a civilian dependent, to 1997-2000 as an active-duty soldier to the present as a veteran. If there are any more soldiers or veterans out there who have been abused or neglected, please let your story be known. Contact your senate representatives

V.A. customer service: not seen for appt, tele-nurse, and playboy mansion poolboys

Healthcare is at the bottom of my priorities. Not because
I dont care about my health, but because I am low income
and my only healthcare option is the poor service at the
V.A. healthcare center

I would wager that the problem with the V.A. healthcare
system is too many people not working on the same page, and
poor training, and well, some just dont give a damn.

So I have gone long periods with not bothering to even TRY
to get healthcare at the V.A. clinic.

In 2002, I had lower abdominal pain, diarhea, that lasted
for weeks. I attempted to schedule an appointment. This
was around October. I received a notice in the mail that
my appointment had been rescheduled for November. When
November came around I received a notice that my
appointment had been rescheduled for February. I gave up
and was not seen for this complaint.

In 2006, in August/September, I had what seemed to be a
very bad flu. It started like a cold but quickly got
severe. I had a high fever, I could not get out of bed to
care for my children, I was coughing up blood with a deep
hacking cough from my lungs. I called to try to get an
appointment. First I had a hard time finding the correct
people to talk to. The numbers on the V.A. website were
wrong. I checked the phone book. The people kept giving
me a "tele-nurse" phone number that no one answered, and I
would leave a message on the answering machine and never
got a reply. I was trying to request an appointment. I
was first told there was no longer a walk-in clinic "sick
call". They said everyone had to make an appointment. So
they asked for my pcp. I said I had not been to the VA in
years and so did not know who it was. They looked it up
and said I did not have a pcp and would have to wait to be
assigned one. I was bounced around on different phone
numbers and put on hold. At one point I wanted to drive to
the emergency room (note: the VA does not have an
emergency department but the WBAMC emergency will accept a
veteran if needed). But I was by far too very sick to
drive, I could barely stand up. I was severely ill for
WEEKS. The day I wanted to try to drive to the emergency
room I coughed up blood into a cup and was going to take it
will me for testing. I called trying to get the tele-nurse
as they had recommended. I never got anything but a
runaround. I still have the phone book with blood from my
coughing and the scrawled numbers they had kept giving me.
I was not seen for this complaint and was treated very very
poorly.

November 2006. I had all the symptoms of a bad urinary
tract infection which may have spread to my kidneys. After
the last fiasco with the V.A., one night I was having bad
pains and so went to the WBAMC emergency room to seek
treatment. I was taken in fairly quickly, at about 0230,
and was asked for my symptoms. I had burning on urination,
and lower abdominal pain. I also told the doctor my
menstrual cycle had some changes and that I had symptoms of
ovarian problems. I was taken to radiology for an intra-
vaginal ultrasound. A technician wearing a "playboy
mansion poolboy" shirt did the ultrasound. I found that a
bit unprofessional but I was glad to be seen finally. The
technician said I had a "large cyst" on one ovary. Back in
the emergency room, the doctor told me I had a urinary
tract infection. I was prescribed an antibiotic. I also
received a printout about "cystic ovaries" and how they are
nothing to worry about. Let's just keep this on record
that the WBAMC staff was aware of the cyst on my ovary but
told me that it was nothing to worry about. Oh and I hope
the playboy mansion pool boy enjoys doing those vaginal
exams. Go army!
