China Launches 18 New Datasets on Geospatial Platform | |
On Earth Day, China unveiled the latest version of Map World, also known as the National Platform for Common GeoSpatial Information Services, which brings significant enhancements to its geospatial services. This government platform, provided by the Ministry of Natural Resources, aims to facilitate the open sharing of geographic data to the public, and it has evolved significantly since its debut in 2011. The latest update to Map World includes the addition of 18 specialized datasets that focus on a broad range of environmental and scientific topics. These datasets include information on national parks, world natural heritage sites, geological relics, mineral crystals, and more. Zhang Bing, the chief planner of the ministry, noted that this update marks a key transition for Map World, transforming it from a traditional basic geographic information platform into a more comprehensive service platform. This new version not only provides enhanced mapping services but also integrates popular science promotion and natural resources management functions, helping bridge the gap between scientific knowledge and public accessibility.
