Whom should we obey?

Do we obey man or God? I believe we can obey both, at least some of the time.

Acts 5:29 Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said, We ought to obey God rather than men. (The priests told them not to preach about Jesus and the resurrection. Peter and the apostles knew who they should obey; they didn't obey the priests. Please study the entire account of this event).

Here are some more of the many pertinent verses on this subject: Proverbs 16:7 and 29:25; Isaiah 2:22; Jeremiah 17:5 and 7; Matthew 10:28; Acts 4:19-20; 1 Corinthians 10:31; Galations 1:10; Colossians 3:23.

Are we to disobey those appointed over us? No. What would it accomplish to be openly rebellious? We could find ourselves on the wrong side of those appointed over us who are ordained by God. Please study the following verses.

Matthew 22:21 They say unto him, Caesar's. Then saith he unto them, Render therefore unto Caesar the things which are Caesar's; and unto God the things that are God's.

Romans 13:1 Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.
Romans 13:2 Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation. (See verses Romans 13:3-7 also).

I choose to pray in silence at various times during the day, such as: while driving, while in the bed at night, standing in line at the grocery store, etc., etc. The point is, no one can forbid me from doing so when I please; no one even knows when I am praying.

Matthew 6:6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.

Question: Can a mere human pass laws that will actually remove God from my mind or your mind or anywhere else for that matter? You can remove the 10 Commandments from a courthouse, you can prevent public prayer in schools and you could remove “in God we trust” from our currency, but, you can't actually remove God from any place. Only fools believe they can. Think about it.
