Hand and Foot is a fun and strategic card game played with multiple decks of standard playing cards. It's typically played in teams of two, though it can also be enjoyed with 2–6 players individually. The goal is to create “books” (sets of seven cards of the same rank) and score more points than your opponents.

Setup

Each player is dealt two sets of cards: one called the "Hand" and the other the "Foot." These sets usually consist of 11 cards each. The Hand is played first, and the Foot is used once all cards in the Hand are played. Players do not look at their Foot cards until it’s time to play them.

The game is played with 5–6 standard decks of cards, including Jokers, depending on the number of players. All remaining cards go into a draw pile in the center, and players also create a discard pile.

Card Values

Jokers (wild cards): 50 points

2s (wild cards): 20 points

Aces: 20 points

8s through Kings: 10 points

4s through 7s: 5 points

Black 3s: 5 points (used only for discarding)

Red 3s: -300 points if not discarded

How to Play

Players take turns drawing two cards and discarding one. The goal is to form books of seven cards:

Clean book: 7 cards of the same rank, no wilds (worth more)

Dirty book: 7 cards with wilds included

To “meld” (lay down cards), players must meet an initial point requirement based on their team's current score, starting at 50 points.

Once a player finishes their Hand, they immediately pick up their Foot and continue playing. To go out (end the round), a team must complete at least one clean and one dirty book, and a player must discard their final card.

Winning the Game

The game is played over several rounds. After each round, points are totaled based on completed books and remaining cards in hand or foot. The team or player with the highest score at the end of the agreed number of rounds wins.
