Thermal power plants operating on coal or alternative solid fuels generate flue gases as a byproduct of combustion. These emissions may contain pollutants such as sulfur dioxide (SO₂), mercury (Hg), and carbon dioxide (CO₂), all of which can negatively impact the environment. A significant portion of flue gas typically consists of nitrogen oxides (NOₓ). Continuous monitoring of flue gas parameters is essential for efficient emission control, compliance with environmental regulations, and minimizing air pollution. Flue gas flow measurement presents unique challenges due to the complex gas composition—often containing O₂, CO₂, CO, SPM, SOₓ, NOₓ, and hydrocarbons (HC)—and the large diameters of the ducts involved.
